Annika Vrklan
Annika is one of the youngest female rippers out there.  She is a mini package of shred.  Her ambition and determination go unmatched.  Sk8sister looks forward to watching Annika grow up in the world of female skateboarding.  She is an inspiration to us all.  Here she is to share some youthful yet wise words with us.

1.  Name, Nicknames:   Annika Vrklan, Anni

2.  Hometown/Age:  Carlsbad, CA

3.  Sponsors:  My Mom and Dad, Flow- Hoopla skateboards, What Wheels, AGSJ

4.  Skateboarding accomplishments:  I did a LOT of comps in 2009-maybe 30 and did really well in most. I was invited to skate in the Supergirl s3 pro-am jam at Woodward West. I was the youngest by 10 years. I will compete again in Supergirl this year.

5.   How long have you been skating?  a little over a year and a half

6.   How did you get into skating?  My family would go to the skatepark to skate and I would razor and then I just decided I wanted to skate and I could go down bigger and then bigger ramps pretty fast.

7.   Where's your favorite place to skate?  I think its Etnies. I love this big roll-in that I can air over 3 skateboards on the other side.

8.   Anyone you look up to in the skateboard world?  Lyn-Z, Mimi, CB, Amelia, Leticia, Vanessa, and all girls that sk8 and try it.

9.  Describe your perfect skate day. I love when we go to a park and its really empty and I can really check out all the features and transitions and just rip it up!

10.  What kind of reactions or responses do/have you received from people when you tell them that you skate?  I've never even had any moments like that.  People don't believe it until they see me skate/drop-in something huge and then they ask me how old I am or how I learned and then I usually end up skating with them.

11.  Any advice for fellow female skaters or girls wanting to get into

skating? My Mom made sure I could really push on the skateboard fast before I was allowed to drop-in big things.  It teaches you all about balance and helps you get your balance back if one of your feet gets sketchy for a sec. You also need to really practice pumping to get speed to make good turns and carve.

12.  Anything else that you would like to add?  I love to skate but be sure to take breaks especially if you feel anything hurting.

Thank you, Annika, for your profound words!  Annika is wise beyond her years and her positive energy is undeniably contagious.  We'll be supporting her for years to come here at Sk8sister.  Skate on, mini shredster!
